Refractive Lens Exchange is the surgical exchange of your natural lens with a specifically calculated intraocular lens.
Refractive Lens Surgery allows excellent spectacle free vision for people with very high refractive errors or anyone with signs of early cataract changes to their lens. It is typically most suited to those over the age of 50.
Until recently, Refractive Lens Exchange gave independence from glasses for distance vision. Now, with the introduction of new Multi-Focal Intraocular Lenses, this procedure allows excellent sight for both near and distance vision.
In practical terms this has lead to outstanding results in our older patients, providing exceptional spectacle independence especially when reading small print.
Some patients report slight haloing/star bursts around street lights, car headlights and similar from new Multi Focal IOLs. However patient questionnaires reported this side effect was minimal and easily tolerated.
